Roy Hodgson was officially announced as the New England manager this afternoon, after two days of talks with the FA.

Hodgson put pen to a four-year deal and will take the job on as a dual role initially, as he will remain at West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season, before plotting England’s plans ahead of this summer’s Euro Championship.

David Bernstein confirmed that he was the overwhelming favourite among the FA committee, given his vast International experience, and Hodgson is looking forward to a job that he described as a real honour and one that he hopes he will have the full support of the media, players and the fans:

“It is a very proud day for me; I’m a very happy man to be offered the chance to manage my country. I’m looking forward to the task ahead.

“Everyone knows it is not an easy one but I’m hoping that everyone, fans and supporters will get behind the team. It’s the team that counts; they go out and win football matches.

“What I’ll do is try to make sure the team is well prepared for the challenge ahead. I’m really looking forward to it.” (Daily Mail)
